Learning Units:
Reading - Importance of Kindness Lit Set - Students will be introduced to several different fictional stories with the theme of acts of kindness. (These books are read alouds, so if your child is absent any day next week, I will send a you tube link home so that students can still enjoy listening to the story.) Students will be working on summarizing the story and answering comprehension questions in their Reading Journals.
Writing - Personal Narrative Writing in Paragraphs using the Writing Process - We are wrapping up our Personal Narratives and will be publishing all four paragraphs next week in class. (We are hoping you can see their progress at Open House on Tuesday evening.) Students are also working on a self portrait in Art that will go with their writing piece about themselves.
Math - Multiplication - Students will represent and solve multiplication problems involving equal parts. Students will create drawings, situations, and diagrams, as well as multiplication expressions and equations. We will be building our knowledge of multiplication strategies, encouraging students to not only rely on one way to get to their answer (product).
Social Studies - Government - In this unit, students will learn about the branches of government, how a bill becomes a law, and voting and elections. Students will bring home their newspapers with articles that have been read in class so that they can review material at home prior to the assessment.
Health - Fire Safety - Students will identify and demonstrate safety. This will include talking about safety plans and trusted adults that they can contact.
