Learning Units:
Reading - Connecting Across Generations Lit Set - Students will be introduced to several different narrative fictional stories with the theme of family traditions, including different cultures. (These books are read alouds, so if your child is absent any day next week, I will send a you tube link home so that students can still enjoy listening to the story.) Students will be working on summarizing the story and answering questions regarding the author's message in their Reading Journals.
Writing - Fictional Spooky Stories - Students will learn about some of the traits of developing stories. We will introduce entertaining beginnings, good endings, and word choice in fictional writing. We will continue their piece of writing that will be a spooky story. Students will create their own illustration in Art for their readers to see their setting.
Math - Multiplication - Students will represent and solve multiplication problems involving equal parts. Students will create drawings, situations, and diagrams, as well as multiplication expressions and equations. We will be building our knowledge of multiplication strategies, encouraging students to not only rely on one way to get to their answer (product). Our first test will be on Friday, September 29. Students will be bringing home a study guide on Monday to complete at home.
Social Studies - Resolving Conflict - In this unit, students are learning about solving conflicts and making compromises. Students will bring home their newspapers with articles that have been read in class so that they can review material at home prior to the assessment on Monday.
Health - Healthy & Unhealthy Friendships- Students will distinguish between healthy and unhealthy relationships with friends.. This will include talking about characteristics and qualities our friends display.
